Approximately 12,000 roses are planted along the Toden Arakawa Line, the famous face of Arakawa-ku, from 'Minowabashi' to 'Arakawa-shako-mae.' Red, white, pink and yellow - flowers in various colors provide joy to the viewer during all four seasons. The best season for viewing roses is from May to mid June, but roses in fall are also not to be missed. At the rose gardens of 'Minowabashi' and 'Arakawa-Yuenchi-mae,' green-fingered citizens nurture the roses with tender loving care, by weeding, cleaning, picking flower remnants, watering and pruning. |

Fujimizaka is noted as one of the "One Hundred Views of Fuji in Kanto (Fujimi Hyakkei in Kanto.)" On a sunny day, you can get glimpses of Mount Fuji from tiny spaces between buildings. The 'silhouette Fuji,' with the burning dusk in the background, is a spectacular view. On days when the diamond Fuji (when the sun sets on the summit of Mount Fuji,) can be seen in mid November and end of January, many people gather to see the spectacular view. |

The Nurie Museum is the only art museum specializing in "nurie" in Japan. It was founded in 2002 by the niece of Kiichi Tsutaya who drew "Kiichi's nurie". The nurie featuring a chubby girl with bright eyes and a gentle look in her face became popular in the 1950's and 1960's. Some coloring pictures in prewar days and from around the world are also exhibited in the museum. |
